Heathrow Airport has appointed McLaren Construction to deliver the redevelopment of the Eastern Business Park logistics scheme.
The 1.6-hectare scheme, which was originally built in 1952, will be demolished and replaced by four warehouse buildings totalling 9,481 sq m.
Each of the warehouses will be split into eight units ranging from 200 sq m to 400 sq m, and the structure of the buildings allows for the expansion of the mezzanine to form a complete first floor.
David Gavin, managing director for industrial and logistics at McLaren Construction, said: “Heathrow’s status as a major hub creates opportunities not only in cargo handling but also for the many support services and businesses needed to meet the airport’s essential operational needs. These new Grade A warehouses represent a major transformation from the site’s post-war buildings. Their sustainable design highlights how far industrial development has moved on, and they now form an integral part of the airport’s infrastructure.”
Alistair Awcock, infrastructure director for Heathrow Airport, added: “This infrastructure investment will provide prime logistics accommodation to our Heathrow partners, whilst modernising, strengthening and adding capacity to our perimeter property portfolio, supporting our customer strategy.”
McLaren’s subcontractor team includes SCWS, Colclad, Roofdec, Watt Energy, FP McCann and Ridgeway.
