Savills has bolstered its science team with the appointment of Matt Barker as an associate director.

Barker, who has more than 13 years’ experience in UK real estate, joins from Nan Fung Life Sciences Real Estate, where he focused on leasing strategy, development projects and ESG-led initiatives. Prior to that, he worked for Life Science REIT.

Barker will join Savills’ science team, led by Tom Mellows, and will focus on leasing, development and occupier representation across the golden triangle of London, Oxford and Cambridge.

Barker said: “I am delighted to join Savills as part of its specialist science team. This is a very interesting time for the sector, which continues to grapple with ongoing headwinds that have impacted the venture capital funding market. Although we are still seeing a strong level of activity, now, more than ever, occupiers and landlords require help to navigate the market and make well informed decisions. I look forward to working with Savills’ strong existing network of experts to grow this capability.”

Mellows added: “Matt’s appointment strengthens our growing science practice and reflects Savills’ commitment to advising landlords and occupiers in delivering the next generation of laboratories, R&D facilities and advanced manufacturing space across the golden triangle.”
