Derbyshire County Council has secured planning consent for the regeneration of the Grade II listed Smedley’s Hydro site in Matlock.
The former hydropathic establishment and County Hall site will be sensitively restored and repurposed to provide a new hotel and events venue within the historic South Block and Winter Gardens, new housing and flexible workspace for local businesses, community and cultural facilities, and enhanced public access to the site and historic gardens.
HLM Architects, which is the lead development and design consultant for Derbyshire County Council, has worked closely with the council and consultant team to develop a masterplan that protects the site’s heritage while supporting sustainable economic growth.
Derbyshire County Council will continue its procurement process to select a development partner capable of delivering its ambitious vision and ensure the long-term stewardship of the site.
