Places for London, Transport for London’s (TfL) wholly-owned property company, has acquired six retail properties and a service yard next to Brixton underground station from the Civil Aviation Authority Pension Scheme for an undisclosed price.

The properties at 421–457 Brixton Road are already occupied by a range of high street brands, including HSBC UK, Five Guys, Sainsbury’s and Argos.

The properties complement TfL’s existing ownership of retail units within Brixton underground station and marks the third major retail property acquisition by Places for London in recent years, following Buck Street Market in Camden – purchased from LabTech – and 19-33 Liverpool Street in the City of London, which was acquired from British Land.

Samantha Bain-Mollison, head of retail at Places for London, said: “Brixton is a vibrant community and we’re proud to invest in this area so we can play a stronger role in its continued growth. This acquisition is a great example of our commitment to investing in high quality assets in order to unlock revenue that will be reinvested into the capital’s infrastructure.”
