Smart Spaces has appointed data scientist Alex Michaels as head of AI to lead the company’s accelerated adoption of emerging artificial intelligence tools.
Michaels, who has more than 10 years’ experience in engineering and data science, joins Smart Spaces from ImprovIT Consulting. Prior to that, he founded two companies – Remix Robotics and hybrid manufacturing firm EngX – and developed additional engineering and data skills at Babcock International, GKN Aerospace and the Lotus F1 team.
In his new role, he will work closely with Smart Spaces founder and CEO Dan Drogman to identify new product and service opportunities emerging in line with the ongoing AI boom.
Drogman said: “Smart Spaces has been at the leading edge of smart building management for more than a decade, pioneering new solutions to improve the efficiency and operational performance of some of the UK’s most high-profile office portfolios.
“‘AI is the new frontier of sustainable property management, with the potential to create significant cost and carbon savings for the most sophisticated landlords in the sector. Alex’s appointment will help Smart Spaces to fully embrace this potential, giving clients access to pioneering new products and optimising our existing full-service offering.”
Michaels added: “The data-rich property sector is well-positioned to capitalise on the revolutionary potential of AI. Smart Spaces has long held a position as a leader in the proptech space, giving us unique access to complete building datasets that we can leverage for new paradigms in energy efficiency, tenant experience, and asset cost reduction. I am excited to work alongside Dan and the team to cement this position, strengthening our product by exploring the opportunities presented by the advent of ever-more sophisticated AI technologies.”
