Stantec has appointed Ana Marques as the company’s new head of engineering for transmission and distribution (T&D) in the UK and Ireland.

Marques has 20 years of experience in T&D design and construction, working across the energy, contractor and consultancy sectors.

She joins Stantec from Wood and prior to that she held senior engineering lead roles at Balfour Beatty, Vinci and National Grid.

In her new role, she will support Stantec’s portfolio of T&D work across the UK and Ireland power sectors, leading engineering with a focus on overall delivery.

Sophie Lee, transmission and distribution director at Stantec, said: “Ana comes to Stantec during one of the most pivotal moments for the market. We’re at the point where we need hundreds of new substations and thousands of kilometres of new overhead lines over the next few years to reinforce the network and deliver clean power by 2030. We’re delighted to bring her and her broad management expertise on board as we help clients upgrade the UK’s grid and support the energy transition.”

Marques added: “It really is an exciting time to be working in the energy sector and the team at Stantec were a perfect fit to be at the heart of that work. There are immensely complex issues to confront as we bring more renewables online while transforming the nation’s power infrastructure.

“However, I’ve seen how Stantec is able to make the most of both its global footprint and local expertise to address client challenges and redefine what’s possible. I’m looking forward to being part of this incredibly high-performing team as it continues growing, working to deliver reliable, sustainable power to the people and places that need it.”
