The Church Commissioners for England has received planning permission for the construction of 145 new homes in Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
The homes are the first phase of a new community of 650 homes, which will include a primary school and local community centre.
Under the plans approved by North Yorkshire Council, 30% of the new homes will be affordable, which supports the church’s vision for more affordable homes and stronger communities, as outlined in the Archbishops’ Commission’s Coming Home report.
Matthew Naylor, principal strategic land manager at the Church Commissioners for England, said: “This planning consent will be an important first phase in the delivery of a new 650-home community that will include vital social infrastructure such as a new primary school and community centre, in addition to much needed new housing.
“Delivering more homes of all types and tenures is critical to addressing England’s housing crisis and we are particularly pleased to be offering a range of affordable housing tenures as part of this first phase, which is in line with local planning policy and the Church Commissioners’ aspirations to create sustainable, safe, stable, sociable and satisfying places to live.”
