US hotel owner-operator MCR has submitted plans to transform the BT Tower in London into a hotel-led, mixed-use scheme.
The application proposes a retrofit-first, heritage-led conversion of the Grade II-listed tower, together with the adjoining podium and Howland Building.
The plans include opening the top of the tower to the public for the first time in nearly 50 years, a new publicly-accessible square and a rooftop swimming pool on Level 5, public realm improvements and new retail shops and food and beverage venues.
The application follows two rounds of public consultation, during which the project team spoke to more than 300 exhibition attendees and received over 170 items of feedback that have helped to shape the proposals. MCR’s team also hosted a development management forum attended by 50 people and met with local residents and community organisations throughout.

Submitting our planning application is an exciting step towards reopening this landmark after almost 50 years, revitalising the area with new jobs and open space for Camden.”
Redevelopment of the site is expected to begin in 2029, once the tower has been fully vacated. Construction and retrofit works are anticipated to conclude and the tower will reopen to the public by 2033.
