Lambeth Council and London Square have secured planning consent for a residential-led development in Brixton.
The approved plans for the redevelopment of 49 Brixton Station Road and 6 Canterbury Crescent will deliver 288 new homes, of which 40% will be social rent homes for people on the council’s housing waiting list, alongside new workspace, community facilities and public realm improvements.
The scheme will transform two council-owned sites currently occupied by Pop Brixton and International House, which were established as meanwhile uses in 2015 and 2018 respectively.
A key feature of the proposals is the retention and refurbishment of International House, which will be adapted for new long-term use as housing, extending its lifespan and reducing the environmental impact of the redevelopment.

“The temporary schemes on these two sites have served the community well and brought activity to these spaces whilst these plans progressed, but it’s now time to secure a permanent future for these sites. This project is focused on town centre improvements and really meeting Brixton’s needs, especially when it comes to new affordable workspace and new homes.”
